Krav
Maga is a “combat system” simple
and practical (is improper to consider it a martial art) that
satisfy the military criteria of
effectiveness and speed with which is possible to reach
the desired result such as the final neutralization of the
opponent.
This system was developed by Imi
Lichtenfeld in the 40’s on request of the Israeli
Government, not as
artistic or sporting reasons but for the military whose
main requirement was
to elaborate a combat system easy to
learn, quick and efficient to use. It was later adapted
for civilian needs and taught in the last ten years.
Krav Maga is suitable for everyone, men, women and children, as
it gives the competence to neutralize thanks to quick and
essential actions that strike the sensible points of the
opponent before he could become a risk. This is one of the main
differences between martial arts and Krav Maga, in the ones like
Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Kung – Fu etc. that inspired Krav Maga, there
is the attitude to permit the opponent to take the first move,
but as Krav Maga is not a sport (it aims at hitting the most
vulnerable parts of the body usually considered to be
untouchable by other combat sports like Karate and Tae Kwon Do)
but a defence system used in high risk situations (street
violence, rape attempts, armed aggressions etc.) it is widely
practiced in the security field.
In order to neutralize quickly the opponent this system is used
a mix of open hand strikes directed to weak points like nose and
throat, Pugilistic style punches, Judo and Ju-Jitsu limb levers,
and the typical Thai Boxe kicks and blows with the knee.
Krav Maga doesn't prepare only Bare hand combat but also for
situations in which the enemy is armed.
Today the main Krav Maga schools are located in the U.S, Russia,
France and Italy and it is getting very famous throughout world
is taught to the most secret service such as Mossad, C.I.A
police and special forces like F.B.I. , the elitè military
units up to the security operators.
